A demolition worker comes in where the first step is not to build, but to take things apart. Remove old tiles. Break down a partition. Strip a room back to concrete. Carry out debris. Prepare the site so builders, electricians, plumbers, or finishers can start their work properly.
This job is not for everyone. There is dust, noise, heavy bags, tools, and constant movement. But that is exactly why demolition workers are steadily needed in Europe: renovations, reconstructions, old buildings, commercial spaces, apartments, warehouses, and industrial sites are always there.
Demolition is not just “breaking walls”. A good worker understands what can be removed immediately and where it is better to wait for the supervisor. Not every wall is safe. Not every cable is dead. Not every pipe can be touched without checking.
Typical work includes manual demolition of partitions, tiles, flooring, doors, ceiling structures, old sanitary equipment, metal elements, or interior finishing. After that comes sorting materials, loading debris, carrying bags, and preparing the area for the next stage.
And yes, cleaning is part of the job. A lot of it.
A demolition job can suit someone without a narrow construction trade, but with good physical condition and hands-on work experience. If the candidate has worked in renovation, construction, loading, general labour, or as a helper for skilled workers, that is a useful base.
It is an advantage to know how to use a hammer drill, angle grinder, jackhammer, screwdriver, crowbar, hand tools, and protective equipment. In this job, speed matters. But safety matters more.
Language is often not the main requirement at the start, but instructions need to be understood. Especially when the work involves electricity, pipes, height, dust, metal, or enclosed spaces.
Demolition worker pay in Europe depends on the country, site, tools, schedule, and experience. For simpler work, rates may start at around 10-14 euros per hour. On heavier sites, with experience using power tools, jackhammers, metal removal, or indoor demolition, rates may reach 15-21 euros per hour or more.
Monthly income often comes to around 1700-2600 euros net. On projects with many hours, bonuses, or more complex demolition work, earnings may be higher, but 3000+ euros usually depends on schedule, country, housing, and actual hours worked.
Before applying, check whether workwear, safety shoes, masks, goggles, gloves, transport, and housing are provided. In demolition, these are not small details. Without proper protection, this job quickly becomes a problem.
The first thing to clarify is the type of demolition. Indoor demolition in an apartment, dismantling an industrial site, removing metal, clearing a warehouse, or preparing a room after renovation are very different workloads.
In your CV, be specific: whether you worked with a hammer drill, angle grinder, jackhammer, carried construction waste, removed tiles, partitions, floors, ceilings, or metal structures. “Ready for demolition work” sounds weak. Specific experience sounds much more convincing.
